How to Register Your Boat in Idaho
To register a boat in Idaho, you must apply within Before operating on public waters of purchase through the Idaho Department of Parks and Recreation (IDPR). Online registration is available. Registration is valid for 1 year (expires December 31).

Title & Title Transfer
Idaho requires a boat title for vessels with permanently attached propulsion (model year 2000+); non-exempt vessels over 12 ft (model year 2000+); any financed vessel. The title application fee is $14.00, and transfers cost $14.00.

Registration Renewal
Validity period: 1 year (expires December 31)
Renewal is available through the same channels as initial registration — online (if available), in person, or by mail. Be sure to renew before your registration expires to avoid late fees.

Boater Safety Education Requirements
Idaho does not require a boater safety course for boat operators.
Required: No
Who must complete it: Idaho does not mandate statewide boater education. PWC renters must receive instruction from rental business. OUI offenders must complete a boating course. Some counties have local age restrictions.
